The Nitty Gritty

Will is in 5th grade this year and Van is in 3rd grade! They are both at the same school now--Martin Warren. Will has Mrs. Nigro and Van has Ms. Seward. They started August 15th. This is what Van has to say about school so far: "It's okay. My favorite subject is reading. I love library. I also like P.E. and Music. Ms. Seward is very nice. I like playing four square at recess. I want to get the all A's award and so far so good. I love snack time. My favorite books are the Manga ones. And I also like the comics. And Goodbye! P.S. Martin Warren is awesome!" Will's take on school so far: "I hate it. Everybody sucks." He and Van laughed. However, this statement turned into a one hour discussion about why he hates it and how changing his attitude can change his experience. "Say whaaaa?" is how I feel about my epic July.  The fourth day we were in Utah, my surgeon called and informed me that the biopsy I had the week before confirmed that I do have thyroid papillary carcinoma a.k.a thyroid cancer (say whaaa?).  She said to take heart in that it's the most treatable cancer. I was to have a total thyroidectomy July 5th. It was weird to think I have cancer, but I was relieved it wasn't anything crazy like brain cancer.  So, the week before after we returned from Utah, I spent time cleaning the house and preparing for my surgery--like purchasing a recliner I could sleep and rest in. The day before, July 4th, there was a patriotic parade for the kids. Small towns are great for things like this.  I took a selfie the night before--my last night with a thyroid!! I felt ready. This year we went to Utah in June. As always, it did not disappoint! Nothing is better than seeing family and spending quality time together. The morning after we arrived, we went to Courtney and Trevor's wedding. They are such a good match and the wedding was beautiful!!  A visit to Payson to see Grandpa and Grandma Orme! Isaac and I sang for Grandpa and Grandma. William hid himself in the corner beside the bookcase because he was so mortified. Haha! Naomi's 4th birthday party! It was a rainbow theme party. Sophie is the master party planner. Isn't that the coolest piñata? Oh and the cutest birthday girl!! It was a lovely evening.
